Generator Technician
Location: Charleston, SC
Job Type: Full-Time
Compensation: $18 – $30 per hour
Position Overview:
As a Home Standby Generator Technician, you will be a critical part of our team, ensuring that our customers have a reliable source of power during electrical outages. Your responsibilities will encompass servicing and maintaining home standby generators, precise installations in compliance with local codes, diagnosing complex issues, and executing efficient repairs. You’ll conduct load bank testing, maintain meticulous records, prioritize safety, and engage with customers professionally. Proficiency in reading schematics, knowledge of various generator brands, and a strong work ethic are essential.
Objectives:
- Generator Servicing: Perform routine maintenance and servicing of home standby generators to ensure they are in optimal working condition.
- Generator Installation: Install home standby generators at customer locations, following manufacturer guidelines and local regulations.
- Diagnosing Issues: Diagnose and troubleshoot generator problems, including electrical, mechanical, and control system issues.
- Generator Repairs: Effectively repair and replace faulty components, ensuring generators are restored to working order.
- Customer Communication: Interact with customers to provide information, answer questions, and educate them on proper generator maintenance and operation.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of all services, installations, and repairs performed.
- Safety: Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and others.
- Knowledge of electrical systems, generators, and control systems.
- Strong problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to work flexible hours and be on call for emergency service.
- Strong commitment to safety and compliance with all relevant regulations.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Clean driving record required.
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in electrical or mechanical systems is a plus.
- Previous experience in servicing, installing, and repairing generators is preferred.

Must be physically able to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and crouch for extended periods throughout the workday.

Must be able to lift and carry materials and equipment weighing up to 80 pounds.

Must be able to climb and work on ladders up to 28 feet in height.

Must be able to work in various indoor and outdoor environments, including attics, crawl spaces, and roofs.

Must have the ability to use hands and arms to handle tools and perform repetitive tasks.
